When this spot on Ritchie Highway isn't operating as a roadside flower stand or pumpkin patch, it's mostly used to store old furniture. What would you like to see happen to this plot of land?

There's a chain-link fence along Ritchie Highway between Arnold and Severna Park. If you've driven along the roadway, you really can't miss it.

It's operated seasonally by property owner Donna Marsh, according to The Capital. But when not in use, it houses old wares and old furniture.

In January, Marsh was issued a citation for operating an outdoor flea market on the property in violation of local zoning laws, according to online court records. A month later, there has been no change to the property.

What do you think should be done on this property?

Get rid of it, she has been given fair warning!!! Its an eye sore!!! She was just trying to compete ( flowers, plants, pumpkins etc) with the other guy, who is so nice and been doing business there for years.

The site needs to comply with the county zoning ordnances http://www.aacounty.org/IP/ZoningEnforcement/index.cfm . If it meets the zoning standards, fine. If not, the county needs to enforce the owner to comply.

I think all the other business owners have to collect and pay sales tax what gives her the right to not? Have a yard sale or rent a commercial space. Looks terrible when driving by.

Get over yourselves with the 'looks terrible' arguement. I suppose a brick and mortar retail business would make her legit. Let the woman make some $$. I have been in the area since 1983 and I am sick of how snotty this new money is. Seriously. The magothy can't grow underwater grasses. Your mcmansions are bad for the rest if us. Gheesh.

I've been in the area since 1969 and you are just wrong, wrong, wrong. We all have a responsibility to maintain our properties adequately and follow the rules, whether we like them or not. I support strong zoning enforcement.

She can never build a Brick & Mortar store there. It is almost all critical area and I seriously doubt she will get permits and variances to get that done. She would have tremendous opposition to building on the headwaters of Cypress Creek which needs grasses bad. Her place looks trashy and maybe you like it, but many don't like the look at would hate to see rt 2 look like some areas north of us.

And get rid of her because her business is newer? Really. Underarmour should just fold up and quit since Nike has been around for years. Competition=capitalism. Which also directly coincides with the local flair I.e. severna park's knack for competition in all aspects of life. Leave the lady alone. And no, I don't know her.

If Alicia hates SP so much, please leave. I'll keep my McMansion and happily live in this great town with my snotty friends. As for this space, it's a total eyesore. Keep selling stuff there, fine, but make it look like something other than a landfill.

She actually has skirted the county codes/laws. I have been in contact with AACo zoning and they cited her and won. She was to vacate the property and remove all the debris, junk, etc. However, she appealed it and the appeal process allows her enough time to start back up again in the spring/summer, when she will be cited again by zoning and the whole thing starts over again. She will appeal the next citation, as well. It is a merry-go-round of her getting around the system. It just goes on and on and there is nothing (so they say) the county can do about it. It's like trying to evict a squatter! AACo needs to man up and set some rules/codes/laws in stone that will stop this sort of thing. It is awful to look at, especially for anyone coming into AACo from elsewhere. You don't see this kind of thing on the side of the road in Montgomery Co or Northern VA. It's appalling and an eyesore that gives Severna Park a black eye. Get rid of it!

no one is going to buy the furniture that has been sitting out in the weather... clean it up and stick to what your space is licensed for... good luck...

I absolutely agree she needs to clean it up. It does look like a dump. If she wants to do a legal business there, file the paperwork, pay the taxes and comply with the citation. Everyone needs to make money. There isn't anyone who will disagree. But, do it right!
I am not sure how she stays in business. I am up and down Ritchie all the time and very rarely do I see anyone there. She is usually just sitting out in the sun in her andirondak reading.

What does the Magothy not being able to grow underwater grasses have to do with the accident prone junk market on the side of the road? Why would you not want to have a nice looking road to drive down vs covered with trash? I don't understand the concept on why anyone would think it was ok for this person to continue operating. If they cared about the property they were on and kept it presentable for those passing by, then continue. However as long as the place becomes a dumping ground for furniture decaying since 'Nam it needs to go.

Why have zoning laws established if we are not willing to enforce them? I may be snooty, but I don't think anyone living in Severna Park wants to live in a dump.

I am not snooty and I think the place is a mess. Haul the stuff out of there!

How did Long Fence obtain a permit to construct their fence?

Personally, I like that the seasonal sales of seasonal nursery plants, pumpkins, Christmas trees is perfect for the plot of land. The junk sale stuff and fence need to go away, really looks awful. I agree no one wants to buy furniture items that have been outside and uncovered. The place right up the street has been doing business for years and has not required a fence or a supplemental winter alternative - they have always kept their property neat and organized. Please no more buildings, houses, shopping centers to be built on this land or anywhere else, we are losing our wildlife and what few wood areas we have left.
