Park residents can expect to be bowled over this weekend as Live Arts presents Cole Porter’s zany classic musical “Anything Goes” Feb. 10-11 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis.
“Cole Porter had a tremendous sense of humor and I can almost see him back in the day tickling the ivories with his friends and just having a hoot with this play. Of course the music from 'Anything Goes' is brilliant, absolutely iconic," Green said.
Green will conduct members of the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Annapolis Chorale and a number of talented singers, actors and even dancers from Stage Workz as they perform the Tony-winning classics “Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top,” “It’s De-Lovely,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “Let’s Misbehave” “Blow Gabriel Blow and” All Through the Night,” to name just a few.
Park thespians will play several lead roles in this romantic comedy of star- crossed lovers. Molly Moore Green will sparkle as Reno Sweeney, a former evangelist turned night club singer, who falls hard for the stuffy Sir Eveleyn Oakleigh played by Severna Park High School math teacher John Helmi. Park resident Tom Magette plays Billy Crocker a Wall Street financier who falls for Oakleigh’s fiance’.
Other locals involved in the play include: Ray Landrum, Ellen Hack, Janet Moore, Jane Timberg, Stuart McGeady, Sharon Austin, Jack Angel, David Herron, Mario Vieira and Rick Weingarten.
There are three opportunities to see “Anything Goes”: Friday is the "Casual Friday" event where guests can mix and mingle with the the cast and crew at 7:30 p.m. before the play. On Saturday there is a matinee at 3 p.m. and an evening performance at 8 p.m.
