Naked Man Sets Fire to Unknown Substance, Barricades Self in Home

A man with no clothing barricaded himself in his home after police received reports about his unusual behavior.

A naked man, acting irrationally while igniting an unknown substance in the street near the 60th block of Robinson Landing Road, barricaded himself in his home on Friday, according to a police press release.

An indecent exposure call came in to police at about 10:42 a.m. Wednesday when witnesses reported seeing an adult male, without any clothing on, acting in an irrational manner and igniting an unknown substance in the street, according to the release. One report stated the man was lighting fireworks but police could not confirm this detail. When officers arrived, the man fled on foot and barricaded himself in his home.

The police department’s Conflict Negotiation Team and Special Operations Section were dispatched. Residents in the surrounding area were asked to stay in their homes.

Negotiators established communication with the man by telephone. After a short period of negotiation, the man agreed to come out the front door of his home and was then taken into custody and transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie for evaluation, according to the release.

Correction: This police brief has been corrected to reflect that the incident occurred on Friday.
