Magothy River Report Card: D- Again
The findings were to be discussed Wednesday night at the State of the Magothy meeting at Anne Arundel Community College.
The report card was delivered for the Magothy and it isn't putting the river and its tributaries to the Chesapeake Bay at the top of the class. The latest findings give the Magothy a D- grade for water quality for the second year in a row, according to The Capital.
According to a report released on Wednesday by the Magothy River Association (MRA), the river and its tributaries received a score of 22 percent in the association’s annual Magothy River Index.
The MRA based the grade on poor water clarity, low dissolved oxygen levels and a sparse amount of underwater grasses, according to The Capital.
Although not factored into the grade, the MRA also discovered record-low salinity levels. Those salinity levels were reportedly blamed for high oyster mortality.
The findings from the report were shared at the meeting Wednesday night at Anne Arundel Community College. For more information, visit www.magothyriver.org.
