Local Businesses Unite, Party for Worthy Cause

Sport Fit and Garry’s Grill are joining together for the Big Night Out Severna Park.

Looking for a fun night out in Severna Park? Sport Fit and Garry’s Grill are teaming up for an outdoor event to benefit a worthy cause.

The local businesses are hosting Big Night Out Severna Park on Sept. 29 and a portion of the money raised during the event will go to the Kellie Thompson Shiley Family Trust.

Shiley participated in Severna Park sports growing up and died shortly after giving birth to twins in July.

“I had the opportunity to play soccer with her on the travel team in Severna Park," said Sport Fit Fitness Consultant Mandy Schulz. “She already had one child and then shortly after she had twins she died. It seems that since this is such a small community a lot of our members knew her.”

Ten percent of the proceeds from Big Night Out Severna Park will be donated to Shiley’s fund.

“We wanted to have a fun night in the community and do some good for a family that is going to need some help down the road,” Schulz said.

The event will feature music, food and drinks all in an outdoor environment. Tickets for the event are $20 and include dinner and dessert catered by Garry’s. There also will be a cash bar.

“We are hosting the event between Sport Fit and Garry’s so it is a natural fit for us to be collaborating,” said Fitness Director Joe Bocek.

Those who attend the event also will be given the opportunity to sign up for a one-month Sport Fit trial membership for $15. The gym will donate all of these proceeds to the foundation.

“I would say for us it is about the community and kind of putting everything together with the excitement the community has for going to Garry’s and socializing, as well as helping out someone who is a part of the community,” said Sport Fit General Manager Bill Danton.

Big Night Out Severna Park will run from 6-10 p.m. Sept. 29. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the event for $20 a person.

“We want it to be fun,” Schulz said. “It is for the community. It doesn’t matter if you go to Sport Fit or not, it is just about having fun and getting together."
