Former SPHS Runner Places First in Coast Guard Meet

Gretchen Holoubek placed first in a Coast Guard tri-meet in New London, CN.

United States Merchant Marine Academy senior Gretchen Holoubek placed first in the one mile run with a personal best performance Saturday at a Coast Guard tri-meet in New London, CN.

Holoubek, of Severna Park, won the event by more than five seconds with a time of 5:33.23.

It was Holoubek's fastest time by 17 seconds and the fastest one mile run by a female Mariner since 2005.

Holoubek is currently seventh on the all-time best time list at the USMMA behind Callie Beeler ('05) and Chrissy Anderson ('02), who combine to hold the top six spots.

"I'm very happy with the effort overall; especially some of our seniors," said USMMA head coach Gregg Lott in a release.

Holoubek's graduated from Severna Park High School.
