Patch stopped by the Severna Park varsity volleyball practice and spoke with senior Katherine Gowland about her volleyball career, life at SPHS and her plans for the future.
Severna Park Patch: What is your favorite Severna Park volleyball memory?
Katherine Gowland: Last year towards the end of the season we played Delaney on their senior night. We weren’t sure if we were going to win because they were undefeated. We lost the first game. Then our coach pulled us aside and told us to play with heart and that he had faith in us that we could win the game if we focused on defense. We played so well and didn’t play with fear. And we ended up winning in five games. I played the best game of my life and I got defender of the game.
Severna Park Patch: What are your expectations for this season?
Gowland: I definitely expect our team to go far in playoffs. We have a lot of depth and I think we will pull through with the hard games.
Severna Park Patch: What other groups or activities do you participate in at Severna Park High School?
Gowland: I am in National Honor Society and Leadership Institute. I am also a yearbook photo editor, bocce ball manager and I am in Spanish National Honor Society
Severna Park Patch: What was your favorite class at Severna Park?
Gowland: My favorite class was AP Language and Composition with Mrs. Harrington. She was a really inspirational teacher. I gained a lot more confidence in myself as a writer.
Severna Park Patch: What are you plans after high school?
Gowland: I want to major in communications and design at either Lehigh or the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. I also applied to Bucknell.
