The Severna Park High field hockey team defeated Deleware's Cape Henlopen 1-0 Saturday afternoon with 13 seconds remaining in the game.
The matchup was one featuring champions. The Falcons, the Maryland 4A field hockey champs, vs. Cape Henlopen the Delaware state champions. And it was Severna Park that came out on top thanks to a last-second goal.
According to the Cape Gazette, the Falcons scored on a corner taken with about 20 seconds remaining. The goal was scored by senior Taylor Anspach with 13 seconds remaining.
After Severna Park defeated Arundel on Tuesday, coach Ann Andrews said she was nervous about the Cape Henlopen matchup.
"I am nervous about that one because they are the Delaware state champs," said Andrews. "It should be a very good game."
The Cape Gazette reported that the Falcons once again had the advantage on corner opportunities, 16-7. They also out-shot Cape Henlopen 16-9 in the victory.
Severna Park will take on Chesapeake in Pasadena on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
