Breakfast Shoppe Named WBAL-TV 'Local Leader'
The local restaurant recently raised $6,366 for an Elkridge girl who was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor.
The Breakfast Shoppe in Severna Park was recently recognized as an outstanding member of the community by WBAL-TV.
The local restaurant was named this month's "Local Leader," which is a recognition WBAL-TV gives to those who make a difference in the community.
The Breakfast Shoppe spent the later-part of 2012 raising funds for Ava Conklin, an Elkridge girl who was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor. The fundraiser featured a monster sandwich and those who attempted to eat the sandwich made donations to Ava.
In February, The Breakfast Shoppe donated $6,366 to Ava on a day the restaurant declared "Ava Conklin Day."
The WBAL-TV video featured footage from "Ava Conklin Day" as well as comments from Ava's father.
Breakfast Shoppe owner Kyle Algaze told Patch during the fundraiser that Ava was an inspiration.
